Ode to Aaron
ODE TO AARON
Aaron Boyce: June 25th 1988 – May 29th 2005
This year marks the third anniversary of the untimely passing of Aaron. For those who knew him, he was a friendly and caring man; of which I am sure you all agree that today is a fitting memorial. For those who didn’t have the pleasure of meeting him, we would like to welcome you to this fantastic event. Amongst other things, Aaron was committed to his rugby. He started to play for Moseley at a very young age and developed a passion for the sport, enjoying both training sessions and playing as part of a team.
Aaron’s family and friends tremendously miss him but it gives us all some comfort that in our hearts and minds we will always remember Aaron for the happy, loving and caring person he was. We remember Aaron as the fun loving man; having achieved so much for a young man of 16 including traveling to New Zealand, training in a Thai Boxing camp in Bangkok and working in Rick Stein’s Fish restaurant in Padstow. We see it fitting that every one enjoys this day as it is meant – Aaron certainly would have!
Throughout his childhood Aaron loved his pets, spending many hours playing with his dogs, most recently Red and Saxon. It seems only fitting and appropriate then, as a tribute to Aaron, to combine his love of sport and animals by hosting today to raise money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. The inaugural event raised almost £8,000 for the charity, and with last year’s event raising £10,000 we are again looking to better this. However, this year we will evenly split all proceeds between our two charities, Guide Dogs and the rugby charity, Wooden Spoon.
With the weather being slightly better than our inaugural year, 2007’s tournament was a fantastic day for all with local band Fat Ankles taking every one into the evening with a fantastic Oasis tribute set. We are pleased to confirm Fat Ankles will once again be providing the entertainment following an enjoyable day of rugby.
As Aaron would have wished, we hope you all enjoy the day. To the teams competing; the best of luck and to the sponsors, players and spectators thank you for all joining us and supporting this memorable cause.
